Keeping Up with SarahJaneReign – Week 1

Happy Friday, my sweet peas! Today is the start of a new series where I show you how to do something that I like to do on the sly: emulate popular fashion icons. And for this four week Friday series, I’m going to be focusing in on the fashionista that you might hate, or you might love, but there’s no denying that she’s style savvy: the one and only Kim Kardashian.

Kim

Now, when I borrow looks from Kim for fashion inspo, I don’t recreate them to a T. I alter them with a little SarahJaneReign spin so I’m not running around like an obvious copycat. I zero in on my favorite elements and make them my own.

For starters, I loved her wrap dress. I feel like a ruched wrap dress with slinky material is a perfect date night outfit that every gal ought to have in her closet. It’s sexy without being too revealing, and it’s not your typical Saturday night look. Kim (or her stylists, rather) chose to go with a camel color wrap dress, cinched at the waist with a wide belt.

For my rendition, I opted for a mocha colored wrap dress from Boohoo and decided to forgo on the belt. Since I knew I’d be sporting bold accessories, I wanted to avoid overloading my ensemble.

One of the things I really love about this Boohoo wrap dress (get yours here) is that it comes in a variety of colors, both neutrals and more pigmented shades. That way, you can choose whichever color speaks to your version of weekend chic!

8Going back to my Kim K mock-up, I did stick with the same type of shoe, in the sense that they’re platforms that have chocolate brown accents. However, I decided to cover up a bit more of my feet and choose a style that was the same shade as my dress to streamline my look. These shoes were borrowed from my blogger pal Red Rhinestone, but you can shop a similar style here!

In line with Kim, I decided to add in an attention-grabbing clutch for a pop of color and visual interest. She attracts the eye with sparkly metallic detailing, whereas my look depends on the color block design and tassel accent to stand out. Again, I borrowed — this time from my blogger pal Essence of Chanell — but here is a similar style for you to shop!

Where I strayed from Kim’s look a bit was my choice to add in a long bar necklace. I think that with wrap dresses, often the wrap itself is interesting enough, giving you the opportunity to pass on neck-cessorizing (see what I did there?). But hey, I was hitting the town on the weekend and wanted a kiss of sparkle, so I wove in this long, on-trend bar necklace from Forever 21 (shop here). I think it offered just the right dash of dazzle.

And there you have it! A Kardashian-inspired look with SarahJaneReign twists sprinkled throughout. What do you think of my rendition? Do you ever recreate your favorite style icons’ looks for everyday wear? I want to know about it, so leave me some love in the comments. Until next time! <3
