Sarah-Jane, founder of SarahJaneReign, is a New York native, living and working in H-Town, aka Houston. By day, she works as a fashion copywriter; by night and weekend, she works as a body positive fashion writer for Bustle.com. The times in between, she emerges as the confident fashionista you’ll find here: SarahJaneReign. As a fashion blogger, copywriter, and renaissance woman, her day-to-day is driven by everything fresh and exciting. The idea of a fashion blog has been brewing in her mind for several years. Starting in 2015, she materialized it. Here’s what happened:
In 2011, Sarah-Jane moved to the concrete jungle: New York City. Back home in Buffalo, she thought she knew everything there was to know about fashion. Girl, let me tell you, she was wrong. Stepping into one of her first internship interviews, she felt like Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada. She’ll never forget how the interviewer sized her up before declaring that she looked like she was “from the farm.” (When, hey, maybe that’s the look she was going for…[it wasn’t]). One fateful night, Sarah-Jane found an article shining light on several plus size fashion bloggers. Finally, examples of fashionistas her own size. Marveling at their style, she felt equipped with the knowledge she needed to face city life, one great outfit at a time.
Her original blog, SarahJaneUrbane, laid some groundwork for her long term goals, but there is still a lot of work to do. Although the world of “beauty beyond size” has come a long way, even from five years ago, we can do better. Ladies size 14 and up are still very limited in the options available to them. Ideally, this blog will help women of all shapes and sizes to be body positive and comfortable in their own skin, and even capture plus-size versions of their favorite celebrity looks, modified for everyday wear. Whether you dare to defy fashion “rules” or tend to follow the trends, this blog will strive to remain eclectic, trying out a little bit of everything.
That said, welcome to SarahJaneReign.
