Slay as You Sleigh: Blue Christmas

Okay, the holidays are fast approaching and you still don’t know what to wear. Well, never fear, my fashionistas, because I saved my favorite holiday looks for last! And they’re both built around the color blue, a favorite shade for winter, but oddly absent around the holidays.

But I say, why not blue for Christmas? In particular, I love cobalt blue for its bright, energetic properties, and navy blue for its elegant, sophisticated appeal.

I think that, as a brunette with a light complexion, I was always hesitant to wear navy because I feared that it would make my skin look dull, or make me look too dreary.

As I’ve played around with my style (which, you know I always say the key to great fashion is to have fun with it), I’ve found that one way to keep a navy look lovely rather than lifeless is to pair it with lighter shoes.

These faux suede, lace-up taupe block heels were less than $10 on sale at a local store here in Houston. And while they don’t have a website, I have a $20 similar nude option here from Charlotte Russe.

This navy dress features lace insets in a tiered style that help to give it a nice, figure-hugging waistline. Combined with the semi-sheer dolman style sleeves, it’s a great blend of everyday cute and feminine style. I would love donning this out for midnight mass!

If navy isn’t your style, go for a bolder shade of blue with a cobalt option! I think that bright shades of blue are perfectly festive for driving around with your sweetie to look at Christmas lights, heading to a family dinner or taking the kiddos out to get their picture taken with Santa.

How fun is this fit-and-flare blue dress?! I’ve pulled a similar style here for you, and it’s under $20! The best part is, I love that it’s a casual dress. Beyond the holidays, you can wear it in your day-to-day activities to maximize its potential. But when it’s time to get dolled up, punch things up and go glam with your accessories.

I added a touch of sparkle with my favorite Kate Spade necklace – similar style linked here. It’s nothing too over the top, but it’s enough to transform an everyday dress into a special occasion outfit.

To complete the look, I took these gorgeous earrings out for a spin. I got these from an Elaine Turner store, but they were a trunk show item from a Cuban-American artist. However, here’s a similar option for your statement-making earring needs!

And, as always, don’t forget to put your best foot forward with kicks that deserve a double take! I am crazy about metallic heels at the moment, and here are a couple of my favorites: open toe boots and sock boot style.

I hope that you have a beautiful holiday, honeybees. As I celebrate Christmas with my family this weekend, I’ll be reflecting on how grateful I am for each of you. Happy holidays, and thank you for such a wonderful season!
