I have a friend who (quite accurately) told me that Houston has two seasons: summer, and diet summer. We did experience a bout of cooler temps last month, and by next month, it will be sleeveless-dress-hot. In the interim, I’ve been figuring out how to dress for the current weather, which can best be described as spring-like.
Warm, but with a breeze, and plenty of rain. The drizzly forecasts mean that light fabrics like chiffon are definitely out, unless I want to potentially have wet patches all over my outfit. Effortless dresses, like this Nina Leonard piece, are my go-to when it’s time to get spring ready.
The fabric is heavy enough to fight off any cool winds, but light enough to keep me comfortable while the sun is out. I love the painterly colors of this dress, a gorgeous blend of cool winter tones and warm hues: the perfect metaphor for these transitional times of year. Stage offers several of these closet staple pieces in a variety of cuts and prints. They’re so easy to work into your weekly rotation. A blazer or cardigan makes them readily work appropriate. A platform espadrille and you’re ready for weekend window shopping.
Since the dress is such a bold statement on its own, I skipped most accessories and stuck with a belt to give the dress more shape, and a classic pair of grey patent pumps. The result? An artsy chic look that made me feel so feminine and flirty!
