Trendy Plus Size Winter Looks (with pieces you already own)

What is it about winter that makes it the least anticipated fashion season every year? I’ll admit, it was not so long ago that I looked less like the Ice Queen and more like Frumpy the Snowman from December to February. But there are so many opportunities (even outside of the holidays) to slay. And, honestly, you probably have all the ingredients for a double-take-worthy winter slay in your arsenal already. So, check it out: Here are a few couldn’t-be-easier ways to put together plus size winter outfits that turn heads.

level up with texture

We all have that solid color piece in our closet that forms the base for a killer look – but it just needs a little … something. You can always add something printed or sparkly to give it some extra oomph, but I say when in doubt, turn to texture.

Outfits can always benefit from a tactile touch. This color block faux fur scarf doubles as a way to add soft color and texture to your look. I slipped my crisscross bralette under the jumpsuit to minimize the cleave for daytime, but you could definitely take the plunge (literally!) for an extra luxe evening look. My embellished velvet mules add subtle elegance to complete the style.

You may remember from my Valentine’s Day coverage earlier this year that the late Jackie Kennedy Onassis is one of my style inspos. Well, my favorites of all of her looks tend to be the printed dresses. But often, prints are passed over during the winter in favor of neutrals.

To carry your go-to printed and patterned pieces into winter without looking out of season, pair them with a neutral coat in a classic silhouette. Pea coats will always be my favorite, but you can find absolutely darling trenches, motos and Anoraks that work as well. Toss on a dangly pendant necklace to top off your ensemble.
Reign tip: This style looks extra stunning with lace dresses.
It’s quite possibly the easiest way to look super put together wherever your winter wanders take you. Hella chic with minimal effort? Sign me right up.

If you’re like me, and you like to switch up your look at every opportunity, nothing is worse than the feeling your style is going stale. This happened to me a few weeks ago, when the temps dipped below 40 degrees, and it seemed almost every outfit I wore was the same combination of colorful dress + black coat/jacket/sweater. I needed to shake things up. So, I pulled this pale pink duster out of my closet, and inverted my look.

Instead of having black outerwear, I wore a black dress and sported my pop of color as my outermost layer. Combine that with a complementing pink clutch and velvet booties (see: texture), and I felt street chic as ever with the most simple switch-up. I know I always say it, but I’ll say it again: Sometimes, you just need to play around with your fashion and see what comes of it!

And there you have it! Easy ways to kick up your winter outfits, using pieces you may already have. What are your favorite style tips for this time of year? Tell me all about them in the comments, or catch me on Instagram or Twitter!
